Evidence-led communications: using insight to navigate the 2026 Senedd campaign.

As Wales approaches the 2026 Senedd election, certainty is in short supply. Fluctuating polling, a reformed electoral system and new constituency boundaries have created a political landscape that is fluid, closely contested and difficult to predict.

For organisations operating in Wales, particularly those in business, regulated or public facing sectors, this presents a familiar challenge. During an election campaign, debate accelerates, narratives harden quickly and assumptions can become costly. In this environment, evidence-led communications are no longer optional; they are essential.

From instinct to insight

Periods of political uncertainty often encourage instinctive responses: reacting quickly to headlines or relying on assumptions about how decision makers, communities or the media might respond. While instinct has its place, it is a fragile foundation in a fast moving campaign.

An evidence led approach shifts the focus from assumption to understanding. Insight drawn from polling, stakeholder research, sentiment analysis and qualitative engagement helps organisations answer critical questions: what stakeholders actually think, where concerns are shifting, and how issues resonate across different audiences and geographies. The value lies not in predicting outcomes, but in identifying patterns that support confident, well judged decision making.

Telling the story behind the data

Insight only becomes influential when it is communicated clearly. Election campaigns are information dense and time pressured; long reports and complex datasets rarely cut through. Effective communication translates evidence into clear, relevant narratives that answer simple questions: what does this mean, why does it matter, and what should happen next.

Scenario planning: preparing for multiple futures

With uncertainty not just about who will win but how power may be exercised, scenario planning is also critical. Stress testing messages and engagement strategies against multiple plausible outcomes allows organisations to prepare for risk, respond proportionately and move quickly once results are known.

Evidence as credibility

When engaging with government, robust insight demonstrates seriousness and preparedness. With the media, it provides defensible grounding for commentary. With communities, it shows that engagement is rooted in listening rather than assumption.

The Camargue approach

For over two decades in Wales, Camargue has supported organisations navigating political scrutiny, public debate and complex stakeholder environments. Our approach is grounded in the belief that effective communication begins with a clear understanding of audiences, context and risk.

That means:

  • designing insight programmes that go beyond headline polling,
  • translating complex evidence into clear, credible narratives,
  • and helping clients plan for uncertainty, not just ideal outcomes.

As the 2026 Senedd campaign unfolds, evidence-led communications will be a defining factor in how organisations protect their reputation, engage stakeholders and influence debate. In a campaign shaped by uncertainty, evidence cannot provide certainty, but it does provide clarity.
